A few months ago, I began treating a patient with a torn MCL (medial collateral ligament). She had been injured for about 3 weeks prior to seeing me and without any improvement to her knee. She came to see me on the recommendation of a friend who knew that this patient was very passionate about her athleticism and was in dire need of finding something, anything, that would make it heal quickly.

I treated this patient a total of 3 times over the course of 2.5 months. After her first treatment she was 60% better. After her second treatment she was 75% better. With her last treatment, she experienced a 90% improvement, which included a reduction in pain and a return to most normal activities like surfing and running without experiencing pain. In addition, with each progressive treatment, the area where we treated shrank considerably.

The goal of Prolotherapy is to increase the healing time of ligaments & joints after injury. This includes breaking up tissue that may have healed abnormally and injecting a solution that supports the regeneration of normal, healthy tissue.

For this patient, I anticipate that she will continue to see healing of her MCL to 100% with a properly healed ligament. As with the goal of any Naturopathic treatment, by removing the obstacle to cure, in this case breaking up abnormal tissue, and by supporting the body’s ability to heal naturally with Prolotherapy solution, the end results are great results.
